Chapter Activity on Hold to Stop Spread of COVID-19

With extremely limited exceptions, Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) chapters have suspended all in-person activity to practice the social distancing that can limit the spread of COVID-19 or novel coronavirus.

“VVA is urging all of our members to visit the CDC and VA websites and to abide by all recommended precautionary measures meant to reduce the spread of the virus,” VVA National President John Rowan said earlier this month.

Vietnam veterans are at greater risk for COVID-19 infection. All are now over 60, and many have conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer and lung disease — as well as toxic exposures related to military service such as Agent Orange — that make them susceptible to the virus’ most severe complications.

Take every precaution to maintain distance between yourself and other people and otherwise avoid exposure. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms such as a high fever, a deep dry cough, fatigue and shortness of breath, call your medical provider immediately.

Chapter updates will return to the VVA site as soon as it is safe for our members to resume their usual  activities. Until then, we are all combatants in a war with an invisible enemy — often distanced from our fellow soldiers, but nonetheless in the fight together. Stay safe.
