Thanks to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 32 in Queens, N.Y., a $2.8 million memorial is being built in Elmhurst Park to honor 371 local service men and women who died as a result of their service in Vietnam.
The memorial was pet project of Vietnam veteran Pat Toro, a Marine and former chapter president who succumbed to an Agent Orange-related illness in 2014.
“One of the last things he said to me was ‘Get this done,’” Michael O’Kane, former chapter president, told AM New York. “It was literally his dying wish.”
