Chapter 970 Member Is Georgia Veteran of the Year

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 970 member Albert Andrew Day was named Georgia’s 2018 Veteran of the Year at Dawson County’s 14th annual Veterans Day ceremony and luncheon. Sgt. Day served in the 3rd infantry, 4th battalion Delta Co., until his honorable discharge in 1970.

Day currently serves on the chapter’s board of directors and has led the chapter’s primary fundraising event for two years. “I don’t feel like I deserve it, but I’ll take it with honor,” Day told the Dawson News. “My tour in Vietnam might not have been as exciting as some of you, but it was really an experience, and if I had to do it all over again, I’d do it.”

Dawson County VA hosted the luncheon and ceremony, which featured a special tribute to local veterans who fought in World War I. Former VA president Don Brown memorialized 44 men who enlisted over a century ago. “I am proud to stand here and honor those men from Dawson County who served the nation in World War I, being called upon to do their duty,” he said.
