Chapter 1084 Visits 37 Classrooms

Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America Leo C. Chase Jr. Chapter 1084 in St. Johns County, Fla., delivered 37 presentations to 740 students at 13 local schools in September as part of its Vets in the Classroom program. Working in two-person teams, members delivered a presentation entitled “Support and Defend the Constitution” during the school district’s “Celebrate Freedom” week.

“We were well-received by the teachers, students and the school district staff,” John Leslie, Chapter 1084 president, told the News-Journal. “This week marks one year since our first Vets in the Classroom program, which has now reached 2,300 middle and high school students, 50 Flagler College students and 10 law-enforcement officers in continuing education programs at the Criminal Justice Academy of St. Johns River State College.”

In addition to the Vets in the Classroom program, the organization helps out at the Clyde E. Lassen State Veteran’s Nursing Home and hosts a breakfast on the first Monday of each month.
