Chapter 885 Honors N.C. Veterans

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 885 held an event Oct. 4 in downtown Wilmington, N.C., to honor the area’s Vietnam veterans, including the service members who did not make it home from the war. The event featured the pledge of allegiance, speeches from chapter members, the national anthem and a color guard from nearby military base Camp Lejeune.

The chapter dedicated a room in its headquarters facility to those lost in the war, and noted that many soldiers who did return were not always treated well. “To have an event like this on a day like today, where we remember our brothers and sisters who did not come home, and then we look at each other and we welcome each other home,” chapter member Curt Farrison told WWAY-TV. “That’s big medicine for us. Very big.”
