Frank Smart, a Board member and the founder of Chapter 391 in Sonora County, CA, gave the keynote speech in May at the dedication of a marble memorial bench dedicated to local service members who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The bench, which sits outside the Tuolumne County Veterans Museum, is inscribed with the names of five men who died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The chapter provided the color guard for the event.
“My message to the audience was that memorials like this, building memorials like this, is not only important for generations now, but it’s important for generations later,” Smart said. “The bench is just beautiful, very appropriate.”
