Chapter 1030 Leads Memorial Rebuild

Chapter 1030 is partnering with other veteran service organizations in Forsyth County and Cumming County, GA to refurbish the Cumming-Forsyth County Veterans War Memorial.

The memorial to the local residents who died in the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War has been the site of numerous Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies over the past 25 years. The refurbishing project aims to tackle drainage issues, and making the site handicap accessible.

The projected $1 million budget will come from donations and private funds. There has been a GoFundMe page set up for the excavation and reconstruction of the site.

Chapter 1030 is leading the memorial rebuilding project, which sits on city-owned property, along with support from American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and About Face. These organizations have formed a collective, The Forsyth County Patriots Alliance.

The new memorial will have redesigns by the original artist, Gregory Johnson. It will feature recognition for law enforcement, firefighters and EMT’s, who fight terrorism on the local level.
