NJ State Council Hosted Traveling Wall

The New Jersey State Council presented the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall in West Orange, NJ during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. 

West Orange was selected to host Traveling Wall because the community contains the most decorated veterans in the state. Additionally, there are three streets named after Vietnam veterans from West Orange who were killed in action: Pfc. James Robert Boland, Pfc. Gerald Louis DeRose and Pfc. Peter Frank Kovach. There were 3 others from West Orange that made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War: Maj. Charles Vanderbilt Lang, Pfc. Charles Daniel Pizzi, and SP4 Robert Walter Woods.

First Vice President of the New Jersey State Council, Frank Arminio delivered the welcome for the closing ceremony. He expressed thanks to individuals and organizations in the community that supported bringing The Traveling Wall to West Orange, and he voiced his support of the service men and women who are currently serving in harm’s way.

The Traveling Wall at West Orange High School was visited by over 8,000 people during its four-day stay. It is the only viewing of the traveling memorial in the state of New Jersey for 2017.
