Chapter 196 in Lynchburg, VA has teamed up with Hill City’s American Legion and the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart to hold golf clinics for disabled veterans in central Virginia.

The group of veterans’ organizations is an alliance called the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council (LAVC). The group is led by LAVC member Mike Brady and London Downs Golf Course pro Jerry Conner.

In the summer of 2015, the LAVC welcomed more than two dozen veterans from the Salem VA hospital.

Two recent participants from this spring were Marines Thomas Harris and Ross Hamilton.

Harris became paralyzed five years ago from injuries to his spinal cord while undergoing treatment for a back ailment.

Gulf War veteran Hamilton was injured twice in the war and suffers from PTSD.

Brady said that the activity is intended to get veterans out their homes and doing something they love.

The venue, London Downs Golf Course, had many of its golfers donate clubs to the veterans.
